This project is read-only.
Project Description
A very simple application which allows Microsoft Excel to open more than one document with the same filename.

Additional Info
The installer will associate with some common excel formats such as .xls, .xlsx, .csv, .tab, etc. This application will only work if you open a file by double clicking on it (as opposed to going through File->Open in Excel). You can associate other file formats with the application manually if you wish.

(Note that the icon for these formats will change to an open source one found here under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license, purely because I don't think I could distribute the official MS Excel icons without fear of justified litigation).

How Does it work?
If the application detects that there is no other file open in excel with the same name, it will try to open the file normally. If however there is a file with the same name opened, it will open the new file by starting a new Excel process (window) and opening it in that.

Donations
This is a pretty trivial (although hopefully useful) project. The code is basic and unpolished, and it hasn't been substantially tested. But If you find it useful and would like to donate to me, you can do so here.

The donation can be as small or big as you wish (obviously!). There are some much grander, more genuinely world-changing project ideas I have. I'd like to think I could fund them through donations, and have them be free for everyone to use. So I'm using this donation link as a bit of a testing-ground for the question of "Will people actually donate if they find the stuff I produce, and make available for free, useful?". So - help me answer that question, one way or the other :P

Reporting Issues / Bugs
I haven't invested much time in testing this at all. I am willing to try and fix bugs though. Just post in the discussions area. Please include:
  1. Which version of Windows (e.g. XP, Vista, 7, etc).
  2. 32 bit or 64 bit Windows
  3. 32 bit or 64 bit Microsoft Office
  4. Filenames open
  5. Erroneous behavior (such as error messages, etc.)
  6. Reproduction steps if possible.
